Fed: Extending NT intervention without review 'wrong': Rudd =2

WA Premier Alan Carpenter said it was a relief the federal government would not scrap
the Community Development Employment Program (CDEP), which involves engaging Aboriginal
people in work-for-the dole activities.

"I was very heartened by the outcome of Kevin Rudd's discussions with Aboriginal leaders
in the Northern Territory, that he will not go ahead with (former prime minister) John
Howard's proposal to scrap CDEP," Mr Carpenter said.

"I think that that was a very bad move by John Howard, and I think it's a great relief
that the new federal government intends to improve CDEP, not to scrap it."
