NSW: TAB won t speculate on its future
TAB Limited refused to speculate today on possible disciplinary action after it was
revealed the agency could lose its licence or be fined $1 million for breaching betting
regulations.
TAB allowed a punter to change his bet on a high-profile race in Dubai after the close
of betting, New South Wales gaming minister RICHARD FACE told parliament yesterday.
A TAB spokesman says TAB would make no comments until it receives from the government
details of its review findings.
The spokesman says he believes the review will be forwarded to TAB by mid-next week
but it was at the minister's discretion.
He says TAB had acted in good faith by accepting the punter's bet.
Mr FACE told parliament yesterday the national betting agency had given the PhoneTAB
customer an advantage over other punters in its actions.
He said although the punter did not win on his new bets, TAB Ltd had still committed
a serious breach of betting regulations and would have to show cause as to why it should
not face disciplinary action.
The incident occurred on March 25 when a PhoneTAB customer claimed his bets on a race
in Dubai, which featured New Zealand mare Sunline, had been calculated at units worth
$1 rather than 50c.
